The Irish ME Trust is a national association for people suffering with the condition of ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis), also diagnosed as CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) or PVFS (post-viral fatigue syndrome).

Suffers of this condition - which is defined as neurological by the World Health Organisation - have to contend with a myriad of symptoms, often quite debilitating. Severity can also fluctuate from day to day and even hour-to-hour.

Sufferers are overwhelmed with fatigue and muscular weakness, particularly after moderate exercise. They find themselves lethargic and unable to concentrate.

Headaches, joint pains, bowel problems, sore throats and swollen glands also occur, along with many other bewildering symptoms. Any exertion, whether physical or mental, will most assuredly worsen the symptoms.

The Irish ME Trust offers an information, counselling and referral service.
The group is also involved in research and lobbying for a definitive diagnostic centre to be established.
